Beyond Osseointegration

Session Objectives: During session II, computer guided implant placement and restoration using SimPlant® Software, immediate load techniques for single and full arch cases, Sinus augmentation through the osteotomy site, biology of osseointegration, and mini implants will be discussed. Implant prosthodontics for the fully edentulous patients using locator over-denture, high-water design, Bar over-denture and CAD/CAM design will highlight the prosthetic portion of this session. 
Hands-on workshops are performed by the class.

Course Objectives

• Understand the use of computer-aided evaluation to optimize diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Learn how to perform a computer-aided treatment planning and the process and the protocol of ordering computer-generated surgical guides and performing computer-guided implant surgery.
• Appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of all 3 types of the computer-generated surgical guides (tooth-supported, soft tissue- supported and bone-supported).
• Appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of the immediate implant placement in conjunction with natural tooth extraction.
• Learn the step-by-step technique and protocol of single implant immediate load
• Learn the step-by-step technique and protocol of multi-unit and full arch implant immediate load
• Recognize and describe the indications for sinus lifting procedure thru the osteotomy site.
• Recognize and describe the indications for the use of narrow-diameter implants in fixed and removable prosthetic situations.
• Perform narrow-platform implant placement procedures for fixed and removable prostheses on models.
• Learn the indications, the guidelines and the protocol for flapless implant insertion technique.
• Understand the comprehensive care and treatment that a restorative dentist can provide to patients.
• Discuss and describe treatment plan options for partially and completely edentulous patients who desire fixed or removable restorations with adequate bone volume.
• Learn the laboratory and the clinical indications and protocol for the fabrication, the delivery and postoperative follow-up for the Ball/Locator overdenture prosthesis.
• Learn the laboratory and the clinical indications and protocol for the fabrication, the delivery and postoperative follow-up for the bar-overdenture prosthesis.
• Learn the laboratory and the clinical indications and protocol for the fabrication, the delivery and postoperative follow-up for the high-water implant prosthesis.
• Learn the principles of the dental articulator
• Recognize and describe the indications for soft and hard tissue reduction at the maxillary tuberosity area
• Understand the principles of osseointegration.
• Describe and treat the complications of root form surgery.
• Learn the biomechanical approach to implant treatment planning.
• Learn the most common causes of prosthetic complications in implant dentistry.
• Appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of cement-retained restorations vs. the advantages and disadvantages of screw-retained restorations.

Day 1

  • Immediate Load for single/multi-unit prosthesis.
  • Immediate Load for full arch prosthesis & the All-on-four technique (principles & protocol).
  • Osstell (with demonstration on a model).

Day 2

  • Osteotomy sinus lifting procedure (Socket Lifting).
  • ocket lift /clinical cases & video surgery.
  • Socket lift/guided placement.
  • Flapless insertion technique & protocol.
  • Peri-implantitis (Etiology, Prevention, and Management).

Day 3

  • Advance occlusal principle for implant reconstruction.
  • Material selection and abutment design.
  • Restoration of the edentulous mandible.
  • Removable restoration of the edentulous maxilla.
  • Restoration of the edentulous maxilla.
  • Full mouth implant reconstructions to include All-0n-4.

Day 4

  • Ball/Locator overdenturei.
  • Bar Overdenture.
  • CAD/CAM implant prosthesis.
  • Narrow diameter implants.

Day 5

  • Laboratory Technology for Implant Dentistry.

Day 6

  • Laboratory Technology for Implant Dentistry Continue.

As a leading authority, he created many classifications and techniques, the standards by which oral implantology surgical procedures can be successfully performed. His name has become synonymous with results-oriented oral implantology treatments around the world.

Domenico Cascione obtained his primary education in Bari (Italy), where he was also certified as a Dental Technologist (CDT) in 1985. From 1986 to 2004 he was the owner and director of Dental Laboratory in Bari (Italy). He is a Master Ceramist and also is a specialist in metallurgy, implant work and complex esthetic rehabilitation.
